Using Samba? Added your Vista User / Password to Samba Server
In Linux as root
smb passwd -a <username>

You might have better results asking in the microsoft.public.windows.vista.networking_sharing newsgroup.

With the later versions of Linux, like Suse 10.1, Knoppix, Ubuntu, all you have to do is open up a browser, and type smb:://ipdrress/shares. This disributions automatically all the network shares whether domain or workgroup.

Yeah OK still on 10.0 but I will have a go at it tomorrow.

I posted the question there earlier. Noone there had an answer.

David I have been trying to get from Suse 10 to Vista all night, can't
authenticate and log in, had some trouble getting windows machines to read / write to Vista also but fixed it now. No problem from Vista connecting to XP boxes and Linux.
The Vista networking system seems very convoluted and a bit confusing, I can't even get a folder to show up as shared in Vista even though it comes up on network pooters as a shared folder so I am going to leave this alone till my head stops hurting and have another look. I have done a lot of previous fiddling about in Vista so maybe I did some damage, dunno right now.
If you do figure out how to get Linux to connect to Vista via Samba in the meantime let me know.

Thanks David, I am pretty sure its a Vista Problem not a Samba
problem. Went through the smb.conf file and manually added network pooter ips just to be sure, password file present and correct all looks fine with Samba.
Stuck now.

It appears to be a joint problem.
I looked here: http://port25.technet.com/ no help. and here: http://slashdot.org/
I saw a posting the someone stated that Vista breaks Samba.
I also saw a post the Samab has a problem with Vista. It may be fixed after the current developement work on the latest Samba is fixed.
I also asked a friend who works at Novell if he knew the answer.
